Fishing in Wisconsin, A brief look

Wisconsin provides for ample fishing opportunities as it is literally surrounded by world class fishing water and has an interior filled with fishing lakes and streams. Fishing the Great Lakes coastline is especially popular with the smelt run in early spring. Green Bay and Egg Harbor are popular in the spring time especially for large brown trout fishing. Fishing guide trips out to Bailey's Harbor and Cave Point are popular, as the fishing guides are experienced in navigating through the recurrent winds and have a keen understanding of variable surface temperatures and current fishing conditions. Wolf River also provides great angling as fishing guide charter boats are able to navigate over 125 miles without reaching a dam. Lake Winnebago offers a unique sturgeon spearing season, where anglers must apply for a license through a lottery system.

Wisconsin offers over a thousand trout fishing streams, with some of the finest spring-fed streams found in the eastcentral portion of the state. Another popular trout fishing stream is the 'Bois Brule,' which leads to the Upper St. Croix Lake, and down the St. Croix River. Canoe and kayak fishing is popular throughout the Brule system, but keep away from the whitewater rapids in the upper Brule.
