Fishing in Missouri, A brief look

Missouri fishing opportunities are vast and varied, from the clear, cool streams of the Ozark highlands to the warm, shallow fishing lakes and bayous of the southeast delta. The best know Missouri fishing spot is throughout the Ozark region where anglers can find high-quality float-fishing and kayak fishing streams and large impoundments. While the western Ozark region streams can be turbid, they provide excellent populations of black bass, walleye, crappie, sunfish and catfish.

In the Missouri and Mississippi prairie regions the large fishing streams are slow-flowing and turbid. In this area, channel catfish is the prime game species, including other catfish, carp, buffalo, sunfishes and drum. The most popular fishing lake is the Taneycomo where trout fishing is consistently good.
