Fishing in Colorado, A brief look

Colorado is a land of stark contrast from the standpoint of climate and geography, which can offer varied fishing opportunities. The western two thirds of the Colorado comprise the highest point of the Western Rockie Mountain range while the eastern portion of Colorado gets little rainfall and fishing lakes and streams can be sparingly seen. However, during warmer months Colorado trout fishing abounds during the runoff. The best Colorado fly fishing is experienced in September when the streams are low and clear.

Kayak fishing on the Roaring Fork River offers great access to trout. Many fishing guides offer kayak fishing trips throughout the area. In the northeastern portion of Colorado, fishing for crappie can be excellent in Julesburg Lake and North Sterling Lake. The best fishing streams in the western slope are the North Platte River, Yampa River, White River, Colorado River and the Roaring Fork River streams.
